Question by brandy G: Can my vaccinated dog get parvo?
I had 2 puppy’s with the parvo virus. One however, did not make it. The other got over it and is making a good recovery. I was going to adopt another dog that’s 1 year old, and has all parvo shots. I was wondering if there’s a good chance that this dog could get it too? Iv been cleaning with bleach allot but I want to be safe then sorry. Thanks.

Well, the truth is no vaccine is 100%… however… the chances are oh-so slim.
It depends on the dog and how long ago you had parvo.
If you had parvo within the last few weeks – I’d wait a month or two just to be sure.
If the dog was properly vaccinated as a puppy – at 6, 9, 12, and 15 weeks and then revaccinated at 1 year of age it will probably be just fine. However, most dogs are not properly vaccinated like that. If it has only had one or two DHLPP vaccines – I think I’d wait the few months.
Also, it depends on the breed of dog. Pitbull and Rottweilers tend to have poor immune systems that are very susceptible to Parvo – even as adults. Other mixed breed dogs and other breeds of dogs are much less likely to get the virus.
Best wishes!!
jut step in bleach when you come home from seeing other dogs. he will be fine.
