Question by Jessica: How can you cure a dog that has Parvo?
A lady that I work with has two puppies that just recently got parvo over the weekend. They are really sick and she is really worried and upset about it, for obvious reasons. I had a dog who had his shots and everything but still got parvo, the vet told me to give him pepto-bismol. My dog pulled through. Does anyone else know of anything that helps?

try to take the dog to the doctor
Pepto-bismol? what idiot vet do you go to?
They need serious help from the vet….. GO TO THE VET NOW!
you need to keep the pups hydrated..you can inject water under there fur so they absorb it that way……with parvo they will not drink it is to pain ful go to the vet and let him do it
Dogs usually will die within 24 to 72 hours after getting parvo. The only way to help them is by taking them to the vet immediately. Parvo is in the ground, so more of her dogs are likely to get it unless they are vaccinated for it.
GO TO VET NOW DONT WAIT THEY WILL NOT MAKE IT IF YOU DONT!! SORRY TO HEAR THIS I HAVE BEEN THERE
GET THEM TO THE VET!
Not a do-it yourself-at-home project, that will turn out to be a kill-them-yourself-at-home project.
Your dog probably pulled through because it was older and had some immunity built up from the IZ’s it had received. The younger the pup, the greater the risk. They die quickly of dehydration and it is an excruciating death. She needs to notify the breeder she got them from as well, as others in the litter are probably likewise affected.
Get the dog to a vet. It is very serious.
Parvo is very difficult and expsensive to cure. I had a puppy that got it and I took her to the vet and the put her down right away.
you take the dog to the vet
My dog had parvo and he was at the vet’s for 5 days. Don’t know of a home cure. Get help, good luck.
They need vet care immediately.
This stuff is worth its weight in gold! and they do overnight delivery> http://www.parvoguard.com/
Meanwhile, give/force lots of fluids. Pedialyte is best, given every hour, or Gatorade if no Pedialyte can be obtained.
Force fluids. You can get an infant syringe used to administer meds to assist in getting pups through parvo. Do not allow food until they are holding down water. Rest … Lots of paper towels and bleach. Its worth it to let the vet techs at the vets office to clean up the diarhea!! Parvaid is an herbal that does help if you are certain you want to do it. Basically you have to just ride it out. Its a virus that has to run its course. Keep pup hydrated with water and the stomach settled with pepto. cheapest way to go.

Actually all a pet has just a good of a chance being treated at home as it does the vet. I have treated them at home but it is time consuming and can be messy. They often get more attention being treated at home and it is dependent on your vet wether he wants to even put forth effort to save. Many vets euthanize without attempting. I have saved dogs with parvo for 40$ and at the vet for $ 1200. Its all a game of chance
If she is treating at home Pepto and one of the herbal tinctures is the best bet. Force fluids pups die from dehydration.
My pup got it back in February and he had to spend a week at the vet. It’s the only real hope he has! They will put him on an IV and keep him hydrated.
Parvo is a virus that specifically attacks cells that multiply quickly (the stomach and intestines). It eats away at the lining, making sure that puppy can’t hold anything down, resulting in constant vomiting and diarreah, ultimately leading to death by dehydration. The only thing you can really do is keep him hydrated while his system battles the virus. He will be very weak during and after this period. After the vet releases him to you, his insides will be too tender to eat regular food, so do what I did… scramble an egg, and cook some rice. Mix them together (don’t add any seasoning or flavor! Just egg and rice.) Plenty of protein and carbs in this easily digested diet to help your pup make a speedy recovery. Good luck!!!
also, if he’s an inside dog, your place is covered in the virus. Don’t let any dogs in your house for 6 months. Sorry, but its a stubborn virus that really messes up your life!
there is no other way to help them other than with special fluids w/ medications that must be injected under the skin. these fluids are only available from a vet. without these treatments, the pups are sure to die. in other words, GET THEM TO A VET ASAP SO THEY STAND AT LEAST A CHANCE!
maybe the lady that you work with should try an homeopathic or holistic vet. pepto is good for stoping symptoms but the diarria and vomiting are the bodies way of elimanating toxins
Parvo is a job for the Vet only! The dogs need to be re-hydrated by means of a drip and the normal owner cannot do this. The dogs will probably spend several days at the Vets.
first a trip to the vet!
chicken broth low salt.
boiled burger/ legs or ck thighs and rice.
also giving hearts and liver as they are full of vitamins. not alot of those however mix a bit in with the other meat
pedalite to drink..no flavor.
yogaurt plain lowfat
cottage cheese lowfat
they need to eat weather they want to or hand feeding or force feeding has to be done for most. if they are not eatting get a sringe and slowly feed them they need atleast 4 small meals a day. it is best to keep the pened up and not having run of the house at all this way there is less to disinfect and disinfectings need to be done and started now. as parvo lives along time on things….BLEACH BLEACH!
good luck for pups and her!
~hope that helps~
Take your dog to the vet. if caught in time he has a chance of being cured. The longer you wait the smaller the chances of his surviving.
