Q&A: how long to isolate a dog with parvo?
Question by ohiois4lovers1990: how long to isolate a dog with parvo?
my 1 1/2 old red heeler mix got the parvo virus about 3 weeks ago. we took her to a vet and got her medicine and now she is better. but we have other dogs in our house and i was wondering how long we need to keep her isolated from the other dogs. some websites say 1 month while others say like 6 mnths. so how long is long enough to prevent her spreading it to other dogs?

If she’s already been around them and on the same furniture and running around in the same yard then the other dogs have already come into contact with it. If your dogs have their shots and annuals they should be completely safe. That’s what the shots are for. The main thing is do NOT bring a puppy into that house for years. Parvo can live on your sofa, rug… anywhere in the house, anywhere outside.. in the soil etc. Unless you bleach every single thing – it will be there for years. To be safe, I’d keep her away from the other dogs for a month or 2, but like I said – they’ve already come into contact with the parvo.
Your vet should’ve given you something for your other dogs to take also. Our vets around my city do this. But mainly, if they have their shots – they’re protected.
